Every Parent Should Know...

Multivitamins Dilemma...

I read that daily multivitamins for kids are not always the best choice for kids under four. Kids under four should have 1,000 UI of vitamin A. More than the recommended dose can lead to bone weakening or other side affects. So I checked the multivitamins that I have been giving my kids. Sure enough, the had 500 UI more than the recommended amounts! Why is this still on the shelf? I still need to research this crazy notion out. Until then, vitamin D only for the kids or only half a multivitamin. Has anyone heard anything about this or know of a multivitamin that is safe for toddles?

Pain-Relief for Kids....

For a long time, doctors did not give babies pain medicines for surgeries and other procedures until the 1980's. Before then they thought that babies could not feel. A paralytic drugs, which forces them to not move (does nothing for pain), was administered. That idea is absurd! Why they waited so late to change things baffles me. What is still crazy-- There are a lot of procedures still performed that pain medicine is not administered! I was completely unaware of this. So before your kids make a trip to the hospital for anything major, you might want to ask a few more questions. (Parenting magazine June 09)

Hmm. I just give my kids half a chewable vitamin and a chewable flouride.
